A Wuse Zone 2 Senior
Magistrate’s Court, Abuja, on Friday remanded a 45-year-old woman, Amina
Abubakar, for alleged cheating.Amina,
who is standing trial before Senior Magistrate Folashade Folarin, was denied
bail for allegedly cheating one Felicia Udogwu of PHCN, Maitama, Abuja.
Prosecutor
Emmanuel Adoku had told the court that the accused, a resident of OAU Quarters,
Maitama, Abuja, was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy,
criminal breach of trust and cheating. Adoku
said that the complainant in August 2010, bought a Toyota Rav 4 from the
accused value one million naira.
He
said that Udogwu discovered that the vehicle had an engine and electrical
fault, and she informed the accused. The
prosecutor said that the accused, thereafter, told her brother, one Abdulmalik
Garba, now at large, to pretend to be a car dealer.
He
told the court that Garba in the company of the accused collected the said car,
with an additional N300,000 from the complainant, with a promise to exchange
the car with a Toyota Corolla 2009 model.
Adoku said that when the accused did not fulfil her promise, the complainant in June, 2015, reported the case at the Maitama Police Station.

The
prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Penal
Code. When
the charges were read to the accused, she pleaded not guilty.
She
ordered the accused to be remanded in police custody and adjourned the case
till July 29, for hearing.
